I think the author would pretty much agree with you on the definition of duties, but disagree on whether or not we are going to lose this war. I think his point is that we have every capacity to win, as long as we don't lose our conviction, and now that we have committed to the people of Iraq, it is our duty to persevere. Follow a couple of the links on the main page, specifically Michael Totten and Michael Yon, neither of whom are on the conservative payroll. They are independent journalists who have spent a lot of time in Iraq and other parts of the Middle East. They'll give you an understanding of what's going on there that you won't get from reading the latest body count. Their reporting isn't all sunshine and roses, but you can get a look at the people of the ME, and that can help with perspective.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe you're looking for too many topics to be resolved in one article. The author doesn't claim to be writing from a Christian perspective. However, in the main point, that of sticking it out in Iraq, I suspect his answer would be yes, we do need to finish the war we started, no matter the circumstances. We committed to the Iraqi people. That is a moral duty we must fulfill, both for their sake, and our own.
